Medicare and Medicaid · Dual eligible

If you have Medicare and Medicaid, you may get more benefits

Many people qualify for both programs and don't know it. When you have both, Medicaid helps with costs Medicare doesn't cover and you can choose plans designed for you.

Benefits of having both programs

1

Lower out-of-pocket costs

Depending on your Medicaid level, the state may pay your Part B premium and, in many cases, your Medicare deductibles, coinsurance and copays.

2

Automatic help with prescriptions

If you have Medicaid, you automatically qualify for Extra Help. In 2026 you pay no more than $12.65 per prescription.

3

D-SNP plans made for you

Dual Eligible Special Needs Plans (D-SNPs) coordinate your Medicare and Medicaid benefits. Many include extras like dental, vision, hearing, transportation or an allowance for over-the-counter items. Benefits vary by plan.

4

Long-term care

Medicaid may cover services Medicare doesn't, such as care at home or in a nursing home, if you meet the requirements.

5

More chances to change plans

People with Medicare and Medicaid have special periods during the year to change coverage, not just during annual enrollment.

6

One team to guide you

We help you make sure your doctors and medications are covered and explain how your two programs work together.
